Council Update from March 2, 2010
- Steve Brockbank, the new Deputy Fire Chief was introduced to Council and welcomed.
- The Fire Chief reported that call volumes for January and February were lower than usual
- The volunteer Fire Fighters have been undergoing considerable training in evenings and on weekends
- The CAO advised that an application has been made to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for funding for the Lakehurst Hall project
- Council directed that a letter of congratulations be sent to the Olympic Committee for the success of the 2010 Winter Olympics
- It was noted that the Heritage Day event in Buckhorn was a great success.
Council Update from February 16, 2010
- Gerry Moraal from the Ministry of Natural Resources attended the meeting to provide a presentation on turkey and coyote/wolf populations. Concern was expressed about the impact of these animals on agriculture.
- Gary Jarosz from Global Emissions Systems Inc., attended Council to provide information on emission control technologies
- Steve Brockbank was appointed the Deputy Fire Chief for the Township of Galway-Cavendish and Harvey. Mr. Brockbank will commence his duties on March 1st, 2010. He has been the Acting Deputy Fire Chief from September 2009 to current. Mr. Brockbank had been a District Fire Chief from 2004 to 2009 and a fire fighter since 1999. He has been employed with the Township Public Works Department since 2001.
- The Fire Department will be conducting ice water training in Buckhorn on the weekend of February 20th.
- The Township will be retro-fitting/upgrading lighting in the municipal buildings. This will be done in conjunction with a program through Hydro One which will cover approximately 2/3 of the cost. The cost savings realized will pay for the Township's portion in less than two years and this money will come from the Gas Tax Funding.
- Construction is well underway at the Lakehurst Hall, the roof is now on and shingled.
- Budget meetings have been set for March 4th and 30th from 1-4 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
