Buckhorn Regional Health Centre Celebrates One Year Anniversary

Mr. Woody Farrell and his metal tree trunk sculpture

The Buckhorn Regional Health Centre celebrated its 1st Anniversary on Saturday, May 30th, 2009. The event was very well attended and enjoyed by everyone in attendance.

The event also unveiled the Book of Names for the first time. This book is a list of names of supporters of the Buckhorn Regional Health Centre and features line drawings of many renowned local artists such as Michael Dumas, Joan Tovey, Johannus Boots and Trevor Tennant.

Also unveiled for the first time is a beautiful pedestal-style bookstand created by local metalwork artist Woody Farrow. The lighted bookstand is reminiscent of a tree trunk and an overhead spotlight is encircled by delicately crafted metal leaves. The bookstand is designed by Mr. Farrow to hold the Book of Names on display in the Buckhorn Regional Health Centre and continues the nature based themes already embraced in the Health Centre artwork and Tree of Donations. This wonderful piece of workmanship has been generously donated to the centre by Mr. Farrow.

Please stop by the Centre if you have the opportunity and see these exquisite additions.

Donations to the Buckhorn Regional Health Centre continue to be accepted and fundraising events will also continue on a regular basis to be put towards the ongoing operating expenses of the Centre.

The Buckhorn Regional Health Centre celebrated its official opening on June 21st, 2008.

The Municipality of Trent Lakes has been extremely pleased to welcome Dr. Jonathan Mallory and Dr. Scott Ferrier as the family physicians. We are very fortunate to attract these Doctors to our community. Shannon Selkirk-Ferrier joined the practice as the Nurse Practitioner.

The Council of the (former) Township of Galway-Cavendish and Harvey established a Galway-Cavendish and Harvey Buckhorn Regional Health Centre Foundation Committee (BRHFC) on January 20th, 2009 by By-law B2009-10.

The 2010-2014 Council representatives appointed to the Committee are Deputy Mayor Ron Windover and Harvey Ward Councillor Bev Matthews.

If You Require A Family Doctor

The Medical Centre will continue to take new patients - only permanent residents of the Municipality of Trent Lakes are eligible.  The rate at which new patients are being accepted is slowing down.  A waiting list is being developed.  A larger patient list has resulted in a longer wait time for an initial physician visit.  Please call Karen at 705-657-7933 to be placed on the waiting list.

The Buckhorn Regional Health Centre cost $859,900.00 to construct and was funded entirely from municipal tax dollars. Ronald Awde Of Ronald Awde Architect designed the facility. Construction began in September, 2007 by Mark V. Wilson Builder/Contractor Co. Ltd and was completed within budget on May 30th, 2008.

Funding for the equipment has been raised through various fund raising events, such as a Golf Tournament at Six Food Bay Golf Course, a Gala at the Buckhorn Community Centre, a weekly market at the Cody Inn, donation boxes at various locations, raffle of an afghan donated by Colleen Innes, a baseball tournament, church supper, quarry challenge, and donations in memory of love ones or personal donations from residents of the Municipality of Trent Lakes.
