An auction hosted by the Trent Lakes Firefighters Association at the Buckhorn Community Centre on August 10th, 2013 raised in excess of $5000.00 in aid of Camp BUCKO, a camp for children who have suffered burns in fires.  A representative from Camp BUCKO was on hand at the auction to describe the purpose and focus of the camp that consists of a full program of which the camp itself is only a portion.  The program enables burn victims to socialize and interact with children who have suffered the same injuries and have similar experiences while undergoing needed medical treatment and rehabilitation.

The event included both silent and live auctions and was preceded by a light dinner prepared by the Shakespear family.  The live portion of the evening consisted of a loonie style auction with Audrey von Bogen acting as Auctioneer.  The event attracted in excess of 130 people, some of whom came as far away as Ajax and Pickering.

While the firefighters had hoped to raise sufficient funds to be able to sponsor one child to go to Camp BUCKO, the outstanding response and support from the public will allow the sponsoring of two or more children to the camp in 2014.

The firefighters would like to express their sincere thanks to everyone who helped make the evening such a success and especially to the individuals and businesses who donated generously in cash and in kind.  A special thanks to Audrey von Bogen for her guidance and hard work and of course to the firefighters, their families and others who gave generously of their time for such a worthy cause.
